Gold and Bronze at 2012 Canadian Boccia Championship

The 2012 Canadian Boccia Championship was a success in Surrey, BC over the past few days.  Canada’s best boccia athletes faced off in singles and doubles play.

On Thursday, in the BC4 doubles category, my Ontario teammate Dale Stevenson and I had a fantastic first day of competition.  After 3 victories out of 3, we won gold and showed off some great shots and strategies.

Friday saw the beginning of singles play.  Both Dale and I took our momentum from doubles into our singles matches.  We drew each other first, and Dale edged me 1 – 3.  Still playing great, Stevenson took on World #4 Marco Dispaltro and beat him in an exciting one point victory.

After all the games were played I finished with a reasonable 2 – 2 record.  The top 3 BC4 singles division finished as follows:

1. Marco Dispaltro
2. Dale Stevenson
3. Josh Vander Vies

Team Canada has a final training camp tomorrow, before announcing the London 2012 Paralympic team in the coming days.
